Rules:
Artists have been invited to produce a sculpture relevant to their current art practice. The size of the work must not exceed 50cm x 50cm x 50cm and not exceed a budget of £100. The work must be packed, wrapped and posted to the gallery in a suitable box with instructions on how to assemble. This will then be installed in the gallery using the box as the plinth. The show will be de-installed after 3 weeks and the works packaged and posted back to each artist using the stamped addressed details provided. At no time will the curator, artists and gallery meet. The exhibition has been conceived to react to the strict limitations of the space and respond to the geographical problems when curating an exhibition. In agreement of participation, artist, curator and space enter into a transaction based on trust, where by each is dependent on the other submitting, organising, assembling, deconstructing and returning the work within the strict guidelines. The restraints dictate the form conceptually and physically of each participant’s submission, each artist must relinquish control, in consideration of the physical barriers and movement of the piece. This forces the works to evolve and adapt to the limitations allowing surprise and even radical gestures to exist. |
